CBD Rituals, Calmness & Creativity

Like many aspects of life, the key to unlocking the full potential of CBD lies in consistency. To realise the full potential of any skill requires consistent practice. Likewise, the full anti anxiety effect of CBD usage will occur after a period of consistent use. The regulation of the EndoCannabinoid System (ECS) by taking CBD oil increases over time. While you may feel a sense of calm from a single dose of CBD, dosing CBD consistently will alter the way in which you ECS regulates and interacts with you bodily systems and neurochemistry. For many people this promotes a calmness that permeates into many aspects of an individuals way of life.

It can be very difficult to achieve targets and make meaningful progression towards goals in life when too much stress is getting in the way. When we observe a master at work, we see that they make their practice look effortless and easy. That is because to them, it is. This is due to two main factors; the amount of time they have put into their craft, & the fact they will conduct their craft in a relaxed and calm, meditative flow state.

Physical practices that promote bodily health and mental clarity, such as Yoga, Thai Chi & Chi Gong are often adopted by masters of different practises to achieve a consistent calmness, which will then pervade into their work. “You do not practice Thai Chi to get good at Thai Chi, you practice Thai Chi to get good at life”. Applying this same philosophy to CBD usage, we can observe that the calmness that can be achieved with the aid of CBD is not the end goal. The calmness allows us to approach life, and the practices we choose to pursue, with the same grounded energy as a master of the craft. When you combine calmness and consistent study/practice, you will be able to make meaningful progress in any of life’s chosen practices.

Introducing a new habit

Introducing a new habit, such as taking CBD drops, may not always be easy to incorporate into an established routine. So here are some suggestions to help integrate consistent CBD use into daily life;

Choose a time. By setting a specific time to take some CBD drops each day, you will be able to incorporate the ritual into your established routine with greater ease. On the hour is always a good time to choose, for example 8am (before breakfast) and 9pm (a couple hours after dinner) would be a good routine to achieve consistency.

Take your time. By allocating a minute or two to taking drops, you will take them in a more conscientious way. Also, it is good to leave the oil under the tongue for a minute, rather than swallowing it instantly. This improves the bioavailability of the oil, as more of the CBD compounds will be taken into the bloodstream. By taking a moment to let the oil sit under the tongue you may reflect on the calmness you wish to achieve whilst also making the dose more effective.

Allow for space to reflect and observe any differences in attitude, general mood, and your physical wellbeing throughout the day. The intake of CBD into the ECS is a much more subtle adjustment to bodily chemistry than medications such as high strength painkillers or ADHD medications, for example. Although the regulation of the ECS to your bodily/mental chemistry is subtle, it will often lead to profound effects. It’s good to keep a conscious mind on how the introduction of CBD to your system effects how you feel on a daily basis. By being conscious about the effects its having on you, you will be able to accurately find the correct dose for you.

Set a routine reminder. If you struggle to keep to a routine, you could set a daily reminder on your phone at your chosen time of day. Alternatively, if you have a board in your room you could pin a written note saying “8am CBD”. By having the chosen time visible somewhere in your room, you will find the habit easier to adopt & internalise.

Make it a Ritual. “How you do anything is how you do everything.” Combine taking CBD with a moment of short meditation, reflect on your intentions for taking CBD & allow space to reflect on the feeling calmness you wish to take with you throughout the day. Use this time to practice taking an action in an undisturbed, focused and intentional manner. By practicing this type of intentional and mindful activity early in the morning, you will likely find you are able to engage with the tasks of the day with the same intentional and undistracted energy. So while taking CBD can increase you level of calm focus, you can turn the action of taking it into a ritual, to further improve your level of calm focus throughout the day.
